New
Life In Creswell Model Village - By Val Neeve
Since
I last wrote about the Model Village there have been several
big changes, The first phase of work on the houses has been
completed - 82 in all! The diffrerence is dramatic. The
newly refurbished houses stand out like sore thumbs.
From
the park the new heritage windows and doors look wonderful
and from Elmton road you can see how the entire estate will
look in about two years time when all the work is completed.

Internally
the difference on the ground floor is not so pronounced
except the fireplace has gone and of course we have a lovely
new kitchen and toilet. The upstairs is where you really
see the changes. From three bedrooms, one large, one medium
and one small they have created two large, one small and
a large bathroom. The layout and design is excellent, maintaining
the three bedroomed family houses that you don't often find
for rent any more. The second and third stages of refurbishment
will be started late in spring 2003 and be carried through
to the finish without the break we have had this time. As
the saying goes ' we learn through our mistakes'.

| The
backs look just as good but without such a heritage influence,
with the new extensions, walls and gates each having its own
access with a nice picket fence between. |

The
best thing by far to come out of all this is the community
spirt that is starting to re-emerge. We have all of the refurbished
houses full and people moving into old houses to ensure that
they get the first choice of the new ones when they are done.
This and the sale of some of the refurbished properties will
hopefully bring into the estate the diverse community that
we need to make the Model Village not just a better place
to live but 'The Place to Live'. |
