Crags secures major funding for a new Museum for the Ice Age.
Creswell
Crags has just received great news that the principal funding
support is now in place to build a new Ice Age centre which will
safeguard the future of this nationally important monument. The
Heritage Lottery Fund approved a pass at Stage 2 for a grant award
of £4.23 million earlier this week, the lion's share of
the capital fund required. Earlier in the year the European Regional
Development Fund pledged £750,000 and East Midlands Development
Agency a further £800,000. The relocation and construction
of a new road away from the gorge and the subsequent restoration
of the gorge, also represents a key part of this project funded
by Lafarge Aggregates, East Midlands Development Agency and Derbyshire
County Council at a cost of £1.2 million.
