Cave tours

Cave tours are one of the most popular activities on the site. An experienced guide takes you from the Museum and Education Centre on a short walk into the limestone gorge and to one of the caves. Our three main tours all involve trips in to the caves. Click on the links below for more information.

Here is check list of points about the tour to ensure that you will not be disappointed when you arrive:

bullet point Have you booked onto the tour? Spaces fill up very quickly so in order to ensure a place telephone 01909 720378

bullet point Although the walk to the caves is on well-surfaced paths, and there are now platforms in Robin Hood Cave and Church Hole Cave, we advise that you wear suitable footwear with a good grip. If you book onto a tour to Pin Hole Cave the cave floor is uneven. The tour guide will be able to advise you as to whether your footwear is unsuitable (such as highheeled shoes or flimsy sandals).

bullet point Bring a waterproof coat just in case. The walk between the Centre and Caves takes about 10 minutes including stops.

bullet point The Centre will equip you with a safety helmet which has a head torch.

ACCESS GUIDE
The walk from the Museum and Education Centre to the cave will take about 10 minutes. The tour follows well maintained paths surfaced with crushed and compacted limestone. One gradient of 1:5 over 10 metres exists. Each tour involves walking up a flight of stairs to reach the cave entrance.
