Creswell Crags is honoured to announce that Sir David Attenborough will be opening the brand new visitor centre at a celebratory launch on 27th June 2009. The respected TV presenter will be at Creswell Crags to declare the centre open for the public. To mark the opening of the new building, a host of free activities have been planned to take place throughout the day.
Robin Hood Cave plays host to a sound and light spectacular where you can relax on real reindeer fur and take in the visions and noises inspired by the Ice Age.
Internationally renowned archaeologists Paul Pettitt and Paul Bahn will be signing copies of their new book Britain's Oldest Art: The Ice Age Cave Art of Creswell Crags. A team of expert archaeologists will be hosting an archaeology roadshow. It's a great opportunity to bring along your ancient treasures and discover more about them.
In the afternoon a host of activities will transform Crags Meadow into a living workshop. Local sculptor Simon Kent will be hand carving a 6ft totem from beautiful wood to commemorate the day. As dusk approaches a ritual burning of the totem will send flames soaring to bring the day's festivities to an end.
