Archaeology Finds Its Way In the Midlands

The Creswell Heritage Trust and partners have just employed a Limestone Landscapes Project Officer after securing first round funding in the Heritage Lottery Limestone Landscape Partnership Programme Development Phase. ‘The Archaeological Way’ was created in 1992 to enable communities in Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire to explore their local landscapes using the railway cuttings which once provided transport routes for local coal and stone.  This Landscape Partnership, covering 184km², will extend and improve the ‘Archaeological Way’ by providing links to local communities and internationally important pre-historic sites to encourage more people learn more about the surrounding environment. Training will be provided in traditional conservation skills to improve the fragmented rare grassland habitats of the area and characteristic built features, such as pinfolds and wells.
