    Big Draw Event Wins Award

Representatives from Creswell Crags and The Harley Gallery will be attending the Big Draw Award Ceremony at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London this Thursday. The attractions have been awarded a ‘runners-up’ award for the joint event which they ran as part of last years’ Big Draw campaign.

“It is a real honor to receive the award, and to be selected from the thousands of museums and art galleries who hosted events across the UK,” explains Hannah Tidswell, Learning Officer at Creswell Crags.

The Big Cave Draw encouraged children to make like a caveman and explore their creative sides. The children first explored the caves at Creswell Crags and gained some inspiration from Britain’s oldest cave art thought to be about 14,000 years old. They were then lead through the dramatic limestone gorge hunting and gathering for nature’s own art equipment which they would use to create their own Ice-Age inspired masterpieces. Artist, Georgina Bell, then led sessions, teaching the children to turn their sticks, twigs and feathers into tools, and to paint with mud, charcoal and earth pigment paint.

The award ceremony will take place on Thursday 17th May where winners will be treated to a tour of the gallery’s renowned collection and awarded a certificate designed by Quentin Blake.
