Ice Age Sports - A great success

Creswell Crags got into the Olympic Spirit by hosting its own games, inspired by life 50,000 years ago.

The Ice Age Sports involved rock climbing (funded by Limestone Journeys), hyena hurdling, spear throwing at a mammoth and reindeer hoopla. All of the children were keen to join in after watching the sporting events on TV.

The climbing wall didn’t put anyone off; most of the children were more concerned by what the helmet did to their hair than the heights. Several children who were afraid of heights even conquered their fears and attempted it, encouraged by their parents safe on solid ground!

Luckily, the Games had very un-Ice Age weather and were able to continue all week.

By the end of the week, the mammoth was full of holes and the hyenas had been hurdled into one too many times – proof if any was needed that today’s children would have taken gold in the Ice Age!
