    Creswell Crags prepares for Santa!


    Santa's elves are busy at Creswell Crags preparing for his annual visit. Visitors will be able to join him in his cosy yurt grotto during the weekends of the 6th & 7th and the 13th & 14th December, from 11 until 4pm. His elves will be on hand to help children make festive decorations to take home. Tickets are available from the reception desk on the day and cost £4.50 per child and include a gift. Creswell Colliery Brass Band will be performing on Saturday 13th creating a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere and the renowned Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir will be singing your favourite carols  on Sunday 14th December. The stunning wintery views make our café the perfect setting to warm yourselves, with a selection of festive treats after a walk around the gorge or trip down Robin Hood’s Cave. For those last minute extras, our interesting gift shop is the perfect place to explore for unusual stocking fillers and unique special gifts. Local crafters will also be joining us with their lovely hand-made products for sale.

    Further Job Opportunity with First Art

    We are looking to recruit a number of Creative Producers to support the delivery of the First Art programme delivered across North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. Based at either City Arts (Nottinghamshire) or Junction Arts (Derbyshire), you will support the creative team in delivering the artistic programme strands associated with the programme.   First Art is a Creative People and Places programme funded by Arts Council England. The programme covers the former coalfield areas of NE Derbyshire and NE Nottinghamshire, specifically the districts of Ashfield, Bolsover, North East Derbyshire and Mansfield.   

    We are recruiting:   2 x PT Producers (Events & Commissions) 1 post based at City Arts, Nottingham 1 post based at Junction Arts, Chesterfield   All posts are part time at 19 hours a week (0.5 FTE) and are fixed term to Dec 2016.   

    Salary: £25,000 per annum, pro rata

Please ensure you fill out the correct form.   There will be two further Creative Producer (Communities) posts advertised shortly that focus on the ‘communities and local’ delivery strands.    

    Closing date for applications:  1st December 2014 at 12:00 mid-day. Interviews are likely to be held on the 8th and 10th December 2014. Successful applicants will be notified by the 5th December. If you have not heard from us by the 5th December you may assume that you have not been shortlisted for interview.

    Mining Memories exhibition is opened by Dennis Skinner MP


    Our new, temporary exhibition, Mining Memories was opened on 8th November by Dennis Skinner MP. The exhibition brings to life a number of oral history recordings which were taken as part of a Limestone Journeys project. These recordings document memories of the local mining industry and associated way of life. 


    If you have memories of the local mining industry that you would like to share by being interviewed as part to the project, please do let us know. Alternatively, if you are interested in receiving training to record the oral histories yourself, please speak with our Director, Roger Shelley. 


    Entry to the exhibition is free and it runs until 1st March.

    Job opportunity at Creswell Crags

    Job Opportunity: Creswell Heritage Trust Development Manager


    Have you the skills, enthusiasm and positive attitude to make a difference at Creswell Crags?  This internationally-famous Ice Age archaeological site is seeking an effective Trust Development Manager to join its team and help ensure commercial sustainability.

    You will be part of a pioneering project, working with outside mentors and experts to raise funds from corporate, charitable and individual donors.  Your museum and heritage background will be essential to understanding our charitable and heritage values.  This is a fantastic opportunity to join an award-winning team in a project supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Transition Fund.

    Fixed term until December 2015, with review of the post in Summer 2015.

    Salary £23k
