This ground plan of Church Hole was drawn by Magens Mello and Boyd Dawkins in 1876. Along the left hand side of the plan are dates which show how, day by day, the excavation advanced into the cave. This very simple plan was used as the basis for that published by Mello and Dawkins in 1877.
