Roche Abbey
The small rockshelter, known as Stone Mill Shelter in Roche Abbey Vale, was excavated by Rotherham Archaeological Society, headed by Brian Dolby, sometime before 1977. Evidence for possible use of the shelter by people towards the end of the Ice Age was found, as well as evidence for later human use suggested by the presence of a flint arrowhead. This picture shows the ruins of the Cistercian Abbey within the valley.
