Engraving of a man on a rib bone
Engraving of a man on a rib bone from Pin Hole, Creswell Crags

Stone slabs, antler and ivory, as well as pieces of bone were decorated. Where there were caves the artists sometimes made drawings and paintings on the walls. The artists used a variety of materials to depict animals, abstract designs and symbols and, just occasionally, people.

Other examples of art and decoration can be found in the gallery or the Bristish Museum Compass collection. Next
