Antler can be worked with flint tools to produce other tools and weapons such as harpoons and points. These use either the whole antler or long splinters cut from the shaft then scraped and smoothed down to a required shape.

The base of the antler where it joined the skull was a useful hammer used to work flint. Also the smaller tines of antler would have been useful to retouch the edges of flint flakes and blades by chipping off tiny flakes to bring them to the shape and sharpness needed for a particular job.
