It is not usually possible to visit Mother Grundy's Parlour tucked away in the trees and bushes. A vivid dream by a local woman promising buried treasure in this cave, perhaps led to the first discovery of hippopotamus remains. These finds led Mello and Dawkins to empty the cave in 1878. Later, excavation by Armstrong took place close to where we are stood. Here, he found a large collection of flints, the remains of a camp 12,500 years ago where wild horse was butchered.
