Church Hole was one of the first of the caves to be excavated by the Victorian archaeologists. Magens Mello and Thomas Heath dug here in 1875 and a photograph from that time shows freshly excavated spoil on the slope outside the entrance. Let us walk over the old spoil heap into the cave.
