Creswell Crags Reopening Plans

In line with government guidelines for COVID-19 safety, and to safeguard our staff, visitors and financial sustainability, our site has been completely closed to the public since January. Staff have been mostly working from home, or furloughed, during this time.

We are delighted to announce that, taking into consideration the government’s Roadmap Out of Lockdown, we will begin a gradual reopening in April 2021. Here are the details:

Step One – Monday 5 April

Our car park will reopen, with a flat fee of £4 for all day parking. Please note, there will be no toilets or café facilities on site at this time. The car park will be open every day from this point onwards. However, you should only visit us if you live locally.  Please check government advice on meeting people from different households before you make plans with friends or family who are not in your household.

Step Two – Not earlier than Monday 12 April

Alongside the car park, where the fees will return to £4 for 3 hours or £6 for all day, the toilets will be open and the café will be offering a limited menu of hot and cold drinks, light snacks and treats to take away. Please note there will be no chairs or tables available outside the café. We will also have an outdoor trail available for families to enjoy around our beautiful site (details will be advertised).

Step Three – Not earlier than Monday 17 May

As with Step Two, above, but we will also be able to open the museum exhibition and gift shop, and resume pre-booked family/household cave tours (booking will be advertised closer to the time). We will also be able to provide seating outside the café for you to enjoy your drinks and snacks on one of our two terrace areas.

We would ask you to bear in mind that any and all of these plans will be subject to change in accordance with government rules. We will always put the safety of our staff and visitors first. We ask you to read or listen to any information given to you on site regarding COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing and wearing face coverings.

The whole Creswell Crags team would like to thank our friends and supporters for your patience and understanding during this time, and for your donations and supportive comments during the lockdown period. We are extremely grateful and we can’t wait to welcome you back safely.
