Educational Visits

Creswell Crags is an inspiring choice for an educational visit! Tens of thousands of students of all ages have benefited from our education programme which delves into the mysteries of the Stone Age in Britain.  We welcome all types of formal and informal education groups, from primary schools to further education and adult learners.

Please be aware that access to the caves is only permitted when visiting as part of a pre-booked group.  If you intend to come on a self-led visit, we ask that you inform us in advance by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Our school trips are very popular and book out several months in advance, so we advise that you check our booking availability above before contacting about a visit.

We are currently updating the details of our Learning Programme, which we aim to have completed by the end of the Easter Holidays. For details of our school visit programme and our availability for the rest of 2023 - 2024, please re-visit this page from Monday 15th April, thank you.

Primary & Secondary Trips to Creswell Crags

We offer several packages for schools, each with 3 workshops which will immerse you with life during the Ice Age at Creswell Crags.

Your group will participate in an activity inside one of our caves, a hands-on outdoor workshop and an indoor workshop which can touch on prehistoric art, animals of the Ice Age, rocks and their uses or evolution.

Our sessions can be flexible for your needs – if you are a secondary school, please let us know which area of the curriculum you are studying and we will tailor the workshops to suit.

Primary & Secondary Trips to the University of Nottingham

Engaging and practical KS2 discovery days delivered by the Creswell Crags Learning Team at the University of Nottingham Museum, Lakeside Arts.

Designed to help your students’ understanding of the changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, a visit to the University of Nottingham Museum is the perfect way to learn about pre-historic Britain. Your students will have an opportunity to learn what we know about prehistory prehistory and how we know about the changes that took place.

FE & Adult Groups

We offer a range of options for your group or society, with talks and sessions delving deeper into Ice Age archaeology, the origins of art and evolution of our species.

You could visit us at the centre, and combine your talk and artefact handling session with a tour of one of our caves – and perhaps coffee and cake at the beautiful Crags Edge Cafe!  We’ll also come to you as a hired speaker at your venue (available within 25 miles of Creswell Crags).

Home Education Groups

We are currently reviewing our home education provision to support families who wish to visit.

Depending on the size of your group, we're able to offer a number of different options to suit your learning.

For larger community groups you may find the standard school visit programme is the perfect choice. If your group is much smaller we're able to tailor our cave tours to help.
