A Walk On The Wild Side

Whether you are looking for a quick stroll or a day-long hike, the area has trails to suit your requirements.

Visit our shop for a variety of walking books and maps which highlight some of the surprises the area has to offer. Keep an eye on our events too, as we regularly run guided walks around the local area. Our café is the perfect spot to meet friends and plan your adventure.

See our events page for the latest organised walks led by our team.

Creswell Crags Rail Discovery Trail

Turn your visit into an all-day railway adventure! Come to Creswell Crags by train, using the Robin Hood Line to get to Creswell Station, then follow new Creswell Crags Rail Discovery Trail. A series of brass rubbings inspired by our artefacts will lead you from the station, all the way to Creswell Crags. When you arrive, you'll receive 15% off in our cafe, and free entry into our museum: download the Trail guide, and let us know you’re on a Discovery Trail Adventure!

Harley Gallery Art Trail, to Welbeck

Creswell Crags is home to some of the oldest art in Britain, and our neighbours at The Harley Gallery is one of the country’s leading modern art galleries. You can walk from Creswell Crags to The Harley Gallery and the wider Welbeck Estate, including the Welbeck Farmshop and Harley Café, via the Harley Art Trail, new for 2022. Follow the path down the side of our car park, past the war memorial, and through the gate, to reach the start of the trail. When you reach The Harley, you will see a sculpture by Michelle Reader, based on an encounter between a prehistoric horse and a modern racehorse, inspired by the close connection between the Welbeck Estate and Creswell Crags through the centuries.

local walking trails

Starting at the museum, our team have tried and tested three different walks of various lengths, giving you an opportunity to see the wider area.

Crags Bridleway Loop is a short 2 mile walk along the Bridle Way into Creswell village and back into the gorge.

Holbeck Walk takes you across the Art Trail to Welbeck and through the beautiful village of Holbrook, before you descend back down into the gorge.

Elmton Walk is a longer trek, across countryside and through the village of Creswell, taking in the Model Village as well as some beautiful Derbyshire scenery.
