Coronavirus/Covid-19 Update: 16 March 2020

CORONAVIRUS-COVID-19 UPDATE 16 March 2020

Creswell Crags, including our museum, cave tours, walks around the gorge, and café, is currently open for business as usual. Our gorge offers a wonderful place to experience nature, get some fresh air, and unplug. However, we want to make sure you can enjoy our site safely.

We have increased our cleaning and hygiene routines. Our café already has a 5 Star food safety rating, but we are adding extra cleaning and disinfection routines throughout the Visitor Centre, and reminding all staff to wash their hands more frequently than usual.

We are watching government advice closely. Currently, guidance states the importance of hand washing. Our site has bathrooms on both floors, well supplied with soap. We encourage all staff and visitors to wash their hands regularly throughout their visit. We have provided additional hand sanitizer in the café area. Any staff with flu-like symptoms are being asked to self-isolate and not come to work.

Pre-booked school trips are still going ahead while schools remain open. We are happy to talk to schools about postponing visits, but please bear in mind that our capacity is limited for the remainder of the year. Please call 01909 720378 and ask to speak to one of our Education Team if you have a concern about your school booking.

Some of our events have been cancelled by the event providers. These include the Astronomy Night on 16 March, Nottinghamshire Heritage Forum meeting on 17 March, the Ice Age Journeys Domesday Survey workshop on 18 March, and Mummy and Me Yoga on 22 March. These have been cancelled as a precaution and to take into account that many potential attendees are currently following advice to self-isolate. Decisions on events will be taken on a case by case basis and announcements made on our Facebook and Twitter pages (Follow Creswell Crags Museum and Prehistoric Gorge on Facebook and @CreswellCrags on Twitter). If you have a ticket booked for an event through Eventbrite, please check your email for direct information about cancellations and refunds, should these be needed.

We have also taken the decision to postpone 12pm tours on weekdays. This is due to staff shortages, with some staff following advice to self-isolate. We will still run tours at 3pm on weekdays and as scheduled at weekends. We recommend calling ahead to book on 01909 720378.

In addition, we are limiting volunteering on site, which will be reviewed on 30 March.

Our staff and visitor safety are our top priority. We are carefully monitoring official guidance on Coronavirus. Updates will be shared social media and posted on our website: www.creswell-crags.org.uk.

Staff are being kept informed of any changes by our management team and Board of Trustees.

A reminder that you can find more information on what to do during the Coronavirus outbreak from the NHS online: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Please take care of vulnerable people in your local community at this time.
