Creswell Crags COVID-19 Guidance 29 October 2020

Please find the latest information for visiting Creswell Crags, in the light of the new government COVID-19 restrictions. Please note, that you should check the latest government information before you travel.

In the light of the changes to the local rules that come into effect at 00.01 on Friday 30 October 2020, please be advised that Creswell Crags (located in Bolsover, Derbyshire) remains OPEN. However, you should not visit us if you are travelling from a Tier 3 location. Visiting tourist attractions is not an ‘essential’ activity. Part of our site is geographically in Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire, which enters Tier 3. However, our legal district is Bolsover, which remains in Tier 1, moving into Tier 2 on Saturday 31 October.

Also, please note that our winter closure hours come into effect on 1 November 2020. This means the site (including car park) will only be open at weekends and closed on weekdays. This is related to our lease and will follow the same pattern as in previous years, it is not a COVID-19 closure.

If you are thinking of travelling to Creswell Crags, please obey the rules for the area in which you live.

YOU CAN CHECK THE RULES FOR YOUR HOME POSTCODE HERE

CRESWELL CRAGS IS CURRENTLY IN TIER 1: MEDIUM

Creswell Crags, postcode S80 3LH, is located in Bolsover district of Derbyshire. This means that our site is officially in Tier 1, risk level MEDIUM. You can find out what the rules for Tier 1 are here.

CRESWELL CRAGS WILL BE IN TIER 2: HIGH, FROM 31 OCTOBER (JOINING NORTH EAST DERBYSHIRE AND OTHER NEIGHBOURING AREAS)

From midnight on Saturday 31 October, Creswell Crags, located in Bolsover, will go into Tier 2: Risk Level HIGH. See the restrictions for Tier 2 here.

We will remain open, with restrictions in place.

Creswell Crags is accredited by the Visit England ‘Good to Go’ scheme. This demonstrates that we have a high level of COVID-related safety at our site. Our measures include: social distancing throughout the visitor centre, a one-way system in indoor areas, regular enhanced cleaning routines, hand sanitiser throughout the building, takeaway only in the café, all touchscreens and interactive activities currently out of use, cave tours and museum visits only available by pre–booking online for household/bubble groups, taking of track and trace details, contactless payment available for the car park, shop and café, and face coverings worn by all staff and visitors in the building and on cave tours.

We have a large outdoor site where social distancing is very easy. You do not need to enter the Visitor Centre during your visit, if you are visiting just to go for a walk. When you do enter the Visitor Centre, please do so by the main entrance from the car park, where you will be greeted by a member of staff who will take test and trace information and advise you on finding your way around the site.

You do not need to book to park, or to take part in our Halloween Bat Trail or take part in our Woodie’s Wings Halloween event. However, we do monitor capacity and, if it is busy, there is a chance of a longer waiting time than usual.

You must book in advance, online, to visit for a cave tour. These are for family/household groups of up to 6 people only and you will be required to wear a face covering unless you are exempt, and practice social distancing from the tour guide, who will wear a face shield.

Entry to our on site museum exhibition area will be restricted to people who have booked a cave tour. You will not be able to visit the museum exhibition as a walk up visitor.

You must not meet up at Creswell Crags, even outdoors, with more than 6 people. We are legally required to enforce this rule and our charity could be fined if we do not. Therefore, staff will ask groups of more than 6 people to disperse. You must also wear a mask at all times inside the building and practice social distancing with anyone who is not part of your household or support bubble.
