The friendly team at Creswell Crags are inviting visitors and local residents to share their memories of Creswell Crags through the years, as part of their celebration of Heritage Open Days this September.
‘Crags Through the Years’ is a celebration of the long history of Creswell Crags. Although the site is known for it’s Ice Age story, with artefacts reaching back 50,000 years to Neanderthal humans who took shelter here, this project is about celebrating the more recent stories of the site.
Louise Revill, Development Officer, said:
“We’re encouraging our wonderful followers to share their history through personal memory, in our exhibition space and a through a gorge trail. We want to bring people together and explore memories with our community, to share stories and learn from each other. We’re encouraging you to share photographs, local news stories and publications throughout the last 100 years, spanning multiple time periods. We’ll be hosting a week-long drop in via our special exhibition space, where people can collaborate and discuss their past to help weave together a network of collective social history.
We’d love to hear your stories, and can’t wait to see what fascinating memories you all have of the Crags and of our local communities, over the generations.”

The images will be displayed in the exhibition space at Creswell Crags during September, and some will be shared online.
This event is part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days Festival, happening every September, to help visitors experience something new and engage in culture – all for free!
