Creswell Crags Closes for National COVID-19 Lockdown
On Saturday 31st October, the Prime Minister announced that there would be a new national lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, beginning on Thursday 5th November and ending on Wednesday 2nd December. Creswell Crags is now in its winter season. As is the case in previous years, we are now closed to the public on weekdays, in line with the terms of our lease. This closure includes our visitor centre, cafe, cave tours, toilets, Meadow, and car park. The gorge footpaths remain accessible via the public bridleway from Creswell village and the Robin Hood Way via Crags Hill. Usually, we would be open to the public at weekends in November, December and January. During the period of this new lockdown, until 2nd December, we will also be CLOSED AT WEEKENDS. Although the gorge is accessible, we do not encourage you travelling to visit us, unless you are local and walk to the gorge for exercise. The café and toilets will be closed until further notice.
All cave tours in November have been cancelled and all tickets refunded. It will not be possible to book cave tours at this time, please wait for an announcement of when bookings will open again. If you hold a Groupon voucher for cave tours, please contact Groupon who will refund your voucher. If you hold a Creswell Crags gift voucher for a cave tour, we will honour the value of this against one of our private cave tours once we are able to do so, safely.
All school visits in November will also be unable to go ahead. If you are a teacher with an outstanding booking, or looking to make a booking for the future, please contact
Creswell Crags is run by Creswell Heritage Trust, a registered charity. We are in receipt of Culture Recovery Fund emergency funding from the DCMS, in addition to other smaller grants, and this will ensure our immediate survival, even with this short-term loss of income. The Creswell Crags team will continue to monitor and maintain the site during the lockdown period. We will also continue our digital programme, including online talks and social media and blog posts. However, these will be challenging times: please consider donating to our fundraising campaign or Crowdfunder or shopping for your Christmas gifts via our online shop, which offers a click and collect service by arrangement.
We thank all our visitors for your support, during the first lockdown and since we re-opened in August. We very much hope to be open again for visitors during weekends in December, and will keep you up to date via our website and social media.
